I would agree with the top three but fourth is a little tricky. It is either going to be Everton or Villa there I think. The difference will be who can get hot and have a really god run at the end ... Read More »

Leeds out of the FA Cup

I swear I can never type that too many times, really I can't. To come home and see that League One (cant type that enough either) Leeds was knocked out of the FA Cup was priceless. Then it got better as if seeing them knocked out of the FA Cup wasnt good enough, the winning goal came from a Derby County academy product who only joined Hereford this season. So let me say it again, Leeds are out of the FA Cup...brings a warm, warm fuzzy to my heart. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Scotland Robbed, Russia Crumble and I'm not happy.

After getting throughly blized last night, I crawl out of bed in time for the Scotland-Italy match and am rooting for the Tartan Army to pull off one of there biggest results ever. Italy get a go ahead goal on some horrible defending and bam its 1-0 Italy, this was an omen to my day. Scotland equalize and while celebrating I almost tip my Smirnoff Ice over..almost. As it looks like Scotland will live to fight another day, the ref for some apparent reason give Italy a free kick that leads to t…

For the love of God, relegate us now.

I am still trying to find words to deal with the 5-0 thrashing at home by a woefully understrength West Ham side. I was rather optimistic about this match, I didn't think we would win it but I thought we would at least score a goal. Nice to see I was right on at least on occasion. As the horror show went on and my meltdown continued, not as massive as it can be, after the 4th goal I was kinda numb to the 5th. I came up with a solution to ensure I don't fling myself off the Market Street Bridge a…

Ahh, you're thinking of Durk Kuyt, the man who's always sweatiest at the end of a game without having done anything. I'd like to see him on his way out, but the goateed one really loves the guy for some reason. He blames his poor form last season on the death of his father, but I don't know. He tries really hard for little result.

Riise is the Norwegian defender who scored an own goal in the first leg of the Champions' League semis and cost us a trip to the final. He's known for his rocket of a left leg, but he scored two goals against us and none for us last season. Good riddance. The picture I originally posted showed a bit of his naked ass. Google it.

Are you going to be around for the Spain game? I'm contemplating doing a live blog!

We're going to get smoked with Donovan out and Bradley insisting on playing this "bucket" formation which effectively protects a spot for his son! I'm working on a blog about the formation now.

Shakira:

The problem with your argument is that you simply assume a player improves by going to Europe. I can show you that more often than not with American players it does not work that way. Either the player is fully developed when they go over and doesn't get any better or regresses or the player that goes over there young doesn't develop unless they go to Holland. (For some reason Holland has an exceptionally good track record developing American players.)

I cannot give you an explanation as to why this happens but can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that American players typically do not improve in European leagues, especially ones between the ages of 23-27. Is it cultural? Perhaps. Americans tend to have an easier time adopting in third world countries even as businessmen than in Europe. Is it also the way we learn the game which is more latin flavored? Probably, and managers particularly in England have no clue how to use these types of players (like Feilhaber who of course is Brazilian by birth and has a latin flavored game). If I had my way their would be ZERO Americans playing in any English league. The ones in Europe would all play in Germany, Holland or Spain.

So my point is I think Donovan did the right thing. Why should he go play in Europe anyhow? IT's guys like Dempsey, Bocanegra, Noonan, E. Johnson, Jaqua, etc who were above average but far from superstar type players in MLS who went to Europe. The top players both south/latin american and american/canadian like moreno, derossario, donovan, mastroeni, Guevara, joseph, and now blanco, toja and mendoza all seem content to stay put in MLS.

So I'm not sure why Donovan must move to Europe to prove himself. He has proven to be more important to his team than David Beckham of United and Real fame, so I'm not sure what going to Europe will prove beyond that. Besides by staying in MLS he is always available to the national team and as we have seen the USA cannot even compete let alone win a match against respectable opposition(unless South Africa is considered respectable) without him.
At 12:20am on May 29th, 2008, Kartik Krishnaiyer said…
Shakira, you know better!

Simply because a guy makes a cultural decision to not move to Europe doesn't mean he is an inferior player or hasn't developed. Truthfully so many Americans that have gone to Europe have regressed in their development or flat out collapsed as players once making the move because of extraneous reasons.

The US team right now is at its worst stage in 15 years, and Donovan is substantially better than anyone else we have. I too wish he'd be more interested and motivated but running off our best player as many want to do means we'll be watching World Cup 2010 as viewers from him IMHO.

I just requested an interview with Kenny Deuchar late of Gretna who came to MLS. Hopefully Salt Lake will grant it. The guy grew up in Gretna and besides going out on loan never played for another club. I know it was very emotional for him to leave and want to get the story if he is comfortable from him. But obviously they were a few hours from being shut down and he was too expensive. He is the guy BTW, the Sky Super Saturday commentator always calls the "good doctor" because he practices medicine also. Should be interesting.

Ashover is quite close to Matlock. I love hiking around that area. You made your point about the match today. Fair enough; Barnsley wanted it more. That's football. Point made. Just think, that's probably the only point Derby County will make against LFC this year. And in America! See, the 39th game IS a good idea.

I have no problem with friendly banter. I happen to be good friends with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Spurs fans and we talk smack about each others' clubs all the time. When you attack my club and attribute my retaliation to being a "typical Liverpool fan," I have a problem. I certainly hope you aren't referring to Hillsborough when you speak of "incidents" either.
At 7:03pm on February 16th, 2008, Trav said…
Oh, it has nothing to do with the Barnsley loss and everything to do with your sad obsession with bashing LFC. Keep in mind, I have never once started the smack-talking with you, you've instigated it every time. I guess with so few points to add up you must have a lot of extra time to rag on other, much classier, better clubs.
